Wednesday, February 23, 2011

On Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, (at the Art Room) Dana will be teaching an acrylic painting class to learn to paint using a palette knife. Cost is $30.00, and includes materials. This is from 12pm to 2pm.

Our altered book group (Ink, Paper, Scissors) will NOT be meeting on Wednesday the 23rd., but will be meeting on March 1nd at 2pm.

There is an issue with this blog site, and I am trying to find another place to host this blog, with better user friendly controls. No one can post anything here, except me, and there are no options otherwise. When I find a better site, I will email everyone the new address. Apologies!

Robin

PS - In the meantime, please feel free to email me what you want to put up here and I will post it for you.

Robin's Info

I moved here in 1998 to be closer to my Dad and Step-Mother. Dad was ill for a long time, and I was ready for a life change, so I left St. Petersburg, FL and have called Franklin home ever since then. Since then, I became a Realtor in 3 states, and a General Contractor in 2 States. Real Estate and Construction has been a wonderful career, and since the economy crashed, I have added internet marketing and web design to my portfolio. Someone once told me if you want something done, ask the busiest person you know. I’m not sure if that is true, but it makes sense to me.

Some of the things I really like are Birds, Butterflies, Dragonflies, Cats, Gardening, Fish (tropical), sea life, beaches, trees, plants and anything about nature. Since I found the Art Room in October, my life has become much happier. It is such a wonderful part of my life to be able to go somewhere, learn something fun, and meet wonderful people. Thank you for letting me be a part of the group! Looking forward to our get together this coming Wednesday to learn the new techniques Millie and Dorothy will be sharing!

Here is my recipe for Dump Cake:

• 1 (20 ounces) can crushed pineapple, un-drained

• 1 (21 ounces) can prepared more fruit cherry pie filling

• 1 (18.25 ounces) box yellow cake mix

• 2 sticks of butter or margarine, each cut into 12 slices

• 1/4 cup chopped nuts (your choice - optional)

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (325 for glass baking dish). Have a 9 by 13-inch baking pan ready.
Dump un-drained pineapple baking dish or pan and spread it out evenly.
Using a spoon, dump globs of cherry pie filling evenly on top of the pineapple.
Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the cherry and pineapple layers.
Cut butter into slices with a butter knife and place slices evenly over cake mix.
Sprinkle nuts on top if you're using them.
Bake for one hour.

Dorothy's Info for Everyone!

My husband Richard & I built a home here in 2003 with the idea of retiring. At the time we thought it would happen pretty quickly, but as it turns out we're here part of the time and still go south to our other home in Coconut Creek, FL nearly every month. It's a very unpredictable schedule and lots of traveling.. but we always feel that the payoff in getting back to Franklin is so worth it.

Last year I very innocently went to a Make & Take at Dianne's shop, with not a clue where it would lead! I don't consider myself very artistic but I'm trying to learn all I can about paper-crafting. I've taken several classes and Dianne can vouch for the fact that I have plenty of supplies. I'd just love to learn more about what to do with them! I think I didn't get enough paper dolls when I was a kid.

I love all things "nature" ... birds, insects, trees, leaves, flowers. I love a good mystery (and other genres, too). I like bluegrass music and we have a new camper. We're excited about exploring more of our beautiful country. I crochet. I like to cook and bake (although not as much as I used to)... I like vintage (50's & 60's) and my tastes are more Art Deco than Victorian.

I'm excited about the pages you all will be creating in my book and learning new techniques. Just from the inside front covers you've put together so beautifully tells me I'm in for some amazing treats! And I'll do my best in your dictionaries, too.

EDITOR'S Note:  Dorothy has a great birthday: New Year's Eve! What fun!

Welcome to Franklin, NC Gals Create!

We are a group of 10 gals, who live in Franklin, NC (some live in Florida part of the time too!). We all met at the fantastic "Art Room" on Main Street in franklin, NC, a great shop for Art and Craft Supplies, making friends and enjoy sharing our love of crafting.

Our first project will take about 9 months to finish. All of us bought old Dictionaries, and are going to be altering them in round robin fashion. We meet on Wednesdays at the Art Room, from 2 - 4pm, have a little bit to nibble, chat a lot, learn new techniques etc.

Dianne MacLean, owner of the Art Room, is one of our members. She graciously lets anyone use her extra room at the shop or her Art Bar for working on projects anytime she is open.  Dianne also has free make and take classes, taught by Bonnie Brock (also a member of the group). We have the opportunity to learn wonderful new techniques hands on from one of the finest crafters, use the latest new materials Dianne has in stock and create a beautiful card to take home. Classes are every Saturday from 10am to 12:30. Sign up for Dianne's Art Room Newsletter.

In the coming months, we hope eveyone joins in, and shares their techniques, pictures of what they are working on, as well as anything anyone wants to talk about here!
